Elephant calf with mother-Sri Lanka

A beautiful peaceful photograph that I took in 1996 while hitch hiking throughout Sri Lanka. Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage has been caring for these majestic animals for decades. Throughout Sri Lankas civil war many calf’s have lost their parents through human killing, intentional and or simple victims of this tragic war. Heavy poaching is still rampant and only about 3000 wild elephants roam free in National Parks. Shot with e-6 Slide film. ©Victor Spinelli
