Made famous by the David Lean movie with the same name which tells the story about the construction of it by forced labor of Allied prisoners of war by Imperial Japan. The game was invented in India about 3000 years ago and the first organized match was played in Persia. I photographed this young man in Havana in 2007. My friends thought he had colored contact lenses but I assured them he didn’t. Besides where would he get them, with the embargo in place.
